Arabic Poetry

The beauty of Arabic language can be seen in Poetry, Poetry has this kind of ability to let the reader feels he is living the situation that the poet is trying to describe.

In the Arabic culture, Poetry can be categorized depending on the era they were written:
before-Islam named "Jahiliya" and after-Islam; poetry in this era can also be classified according to the rulers of the Islamic empire and there is of course what is written nowadays: modern poetry and what I call "Bedouins" poetry actually named "Nabati"


I don't want to go very deeply into explaining Arabic poetry history because it will be very confusing and the most important thing I am not an expert I just know few things from here and there.

my favorites are the poetry  that belong to before-Islam and after-Islam (to a certain point), modern poetry are not my interest although I like some of the "Nabati" poems and they are written using Bedouins' dialects which is little difficult for me to understand!

I prefer love poetry - in the Arabic language they are literally named "flirting poetry"-, because in the Arabic culture when a man loves a woman he writes a poem about her describing her beauty thus using the poetry to expose and show his feelings towards her.

The Arabic poetry has a structure, It consist of phrases and each phrase consists of two halves - this structure is applicable to almost all types with some exception in the modern poetry-.

Each main phrase is called "Bayt" which means house in Englishز
and for the two halves, each half is called "Shatr".

so for the upcoming posts -related to poetry-, I will be posting a part of my favorite poems, giving a brief about the poet and then explaining the phrases themselves,

Learning Arabic

I love learning languages and I wish I have the time to do so but unfortunately I am very busy.

To learn a language you must keep practicing every day and you must be very dedicated so you don't forget otherwise you will need to go over everything again.

I studied Japanese - level 1- at college and I really loved it but after that I stopped as I didn't have the time.

so for now, because I am craving to learn Japanese I thought why not to help others who want to learn Arabic, I started searching for online courses and the results I viewed were not good, poor quality lessons
 and which was supposed to teach you "MSA: modern standard Arabic" was mixing up between MSA and other Arabic dialects.

I really love Arabic specially poems <3<3<3 and I am planning to post some of my favorites and explain it in English for others who might be interested.

Each Arabian country has it is own dialect, most of the times each city has it is own dialect. and countries within the same region have similar dialects ... etc.

And because of that we don't use MSA in our daily life, it is only used for formal purposes.

MSA is developed by reading, the more you read the better you get. Unfortunately, many Arabs don't read it is just not what they like to do in their free time thus you will find lots of Arabs not good in MSA or they have average skills.

I am posting this because lots are saying learning Arabic is difficult, but the fact is many Arabs find it difficult as well because in order to learn Arabic you need to read and get familiar with the language -after learning the basics- of course, an important point is try to read Arabic literature not any regular Arabic book.

Arabic language is really connected to Islam, Qura'an is written in standard Arabic and religious books are written in higher level MSA.

finally, I am offering my help to anyone who wants to learn Arabic although I don't think that I am a very good teacher, but I will do my best.
